
Debark University is taking steps to enhance its e-learning capabilities
Debark University is implementing an initiative to enhance e-learning as part of the Ministry of Education’s e-Learning to Strengthen Higher Education (e-SHE) project. This multi-stakeholder initiative is being implemented by the ministry in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, Arizona State University, Shayashone PLC, and 50 Ethiopian public universities.
Mr. Sewalem Muluye, Director of the Academic Programs Directorate, announced that the university has introduced its e-learning strategy to key academic leaders. To support this, the university plans to revise its senate legislation, expand digital classrooms, enhance Wi-Fi access, and provide institutional email accounts for all undergraduate students.
Mr. Wube Belay, ICT Executive Director, confirmed that preparations are on track, with email accounts set up for both staff and students, and two staff members trained to manage the initiative.
Mr. Habtamu Tariku, Head of Information Technology Depertmentv and e-SHE Coordinator, noted that many staff have completed training and certification. Moreover he remind that in the next semester, students will complete the Student Success Suite (SSS) course before starting regular classes. Multimedia content has been developed for online courses, including subjects like Emerging Technology and Mathematics.
Mr. Habtamu stressed the importance of further staff training to enhance online course delivery and urged department heads to encourage student enrollment in the SSS course.
