Debark University (DKU) of Ethiopia and the University of Hargeisa (UoH) in Somaliland have formalized their commitment to advancing education, research, and sustainable development by signing a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This partnership aims to foster academic excellence and innovation through collaborative initiatives, emphasizing shared growth and knowledge exchange.
Key areas of cooperation outlined in the agreement include the establishment of dual-degree programs, faculty and student exchange opportunities, and collaborative research projects. These efforts are designed to enhance academic standards, promote cultural exchange, and address pressing regional and global challenges.
The University of Hargeisa, founded in 1998, is the largest and most prestigious higher education institution in Somaliland. It offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs and has a strong history of collaboration with renowned regional and international institutions such as King’s College London, Harvard University, the International University of Africa, University College London, and other universities across the Horn of Africa.
By uniting their expertise and resources, DKU and UoH aim to drive regional progress through impactful community-based projects and initiatives that prioritize sustainability and development. This partnership underscores the universities’ shared commitment to addressing critical social and environmental challenges through education and research.
The MoU was officially signed on November 21, 2024, by the presidents of both universities during their participation in a collaborative project in Spain. This historic agreement marks a new chapter in regional and international cooperation for both institutions.
