Today, Debark University paid an official visit to the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Addis Ababa, where a productive discussion was held with H.E. Mr. Evgeny Terekhin, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Ethiopia, and Mr. Vladimir Golovachev, Head of the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Addis Ababa, to explore opportunities for strengthening academic and scientific cooperation.
The meeting focused on expanding collaboration between Debark University and Russian higher education institutions in areas of mutual interest, including academic and research partnerships, faculty and student exchange programs, scholarship opportunities, capacity building, joint research initiatives, Russian language and cultural cooperation, as well as collaboration in science, technology, engineering, and innovation.
During the discussion, Dr. Asmamaw Zegeye, President of Debark University, emphasized the University’s commitment to internationalization and expressed its strong interest in establishing sustainable partnerships with Russian universities and research institutions. As an alumnus of a Russian university, he also highlighted the enduring educational ties between Ethiopia and the Russian Federation and the importance of strengthening cooperation for the mutual benefit of both countries. He also expressed Debark University’s interest in strengthening collaboration with universities across the BRICS countries through academic partnerships, joint research, and participation in BRICS university networks as part of the University’s internationalization agenda.
The Embassy of the Russian Federation welcomed Debark University’s commitment to expanding international cooperation, and both sides reaffirmed their interest in pursuing practical areas of collaboration that will strengthen academic excellence and people-to-people ties between Ethiopia and the Russian Federation.
