
Training for Health Professionals on community-based management of acute malnutrition (CMAM) has begun
Debark University in collaboration with Medical Teams International has launched a seven-day training program on Community-Based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) for health professionals from Beyeda and Telemt woredas from April 26 to May 2, 2025 at the University’s Continuous Professional Development Centre (CPD).


The training is given by certified trainers from the North Gondar Zone Health Department, where the training covers key topics including the significance of severe malnutrition as a public health issue, principles of care, initial management, feeding practices, daily care, acute management (components and objectives), the leading causes of morbidity and mortality among children under five, and the impact of deficiencies in protein, energy, minerals, and vitamins.


According to Mr. Yosef Arragaw, Research, Technology Transferand Community Services, and CPD Coordinator of College of Health Science four trainers and twenty-eight trainees are participating in the program. Mr. Yosef emphasized that the primary goal of the training is to reduce health problems associated with acute malnutrition through improved community-based management.
