
The 17th National Conference of Ethiopian Physical Society was held in Debark University
Debark University in collaboration with the Ethiopian physical society(EPS) organized the 17th national conference. Participants were from different Universties, including Debark university staff and management members, EPS members and the Ethiopian space science and Geospecial team attend the conference.
Dr. Jejaw Demamu the president of Debark University made a warm welcome speech for the audience. The president by giving brief information about the university for guests and participants. While briefing, Dr. Jejaw informed the audienc that, after three years, the total intake capacity of the University will be expected to be more than ten thousand. He also added tha Debark University envisioned to be one of the best among comprehensive universities with an aspiration to excel in the fields of Agriculture and Tourism.
Dr. Jejaw Demamu gave takeaway assignments to.participants of the conference on the hypothesis that ” some scholars are hypothesizing that the highlands of Ethiopia are the birthplace of the hurricane”. As this conference is right now taking place in the highest highland of Ethiopia, scholars who participant in this conference have a room to prove whether the hypothesis is real or not. He said “On behalf of my University, I assure that debark University will support research projects for those interested to investigate on the mentioned hypothesis.”
The president finalized by addressing a message for staff members by stressing the Universities committment to host and organize such national conferences and symposium; since such conferences would play great role in creating networking with the academic community.
The EPS president Dr. Tesgera Badassa has made an opening speech. On his speech he appreciated the commitment that has been taken by Debark University on sponsoring, organizing and hospitality. He stated due to the civil war in the northern part of Ethiopia and other related problems, the committee of EPS were in doubt that Debark University could make a conference as they promised or not; however, with the good will of the Ethiopian government and Tigray region leaders our wish comes on the truth and we meet here together. Dr. Tesgera finally introduced the program what is going to be done with two days.
Dr. Seblu Humne on behalf of space science and geospatial institute has also made a keynote speech on the 17th national conference of Ethiopian Physical society. In his keynote speech, he raised how is physics defined the universe, our solar system and why we study physics; importance of physics in daily life; physics and astronomy: what physicists and astronomers do and what physicists big questions are.
Dr. Seblu remarked that science has no gender and no age limit, and as long as we are human, we have to develop technology and science and look forward to the next challenge, the next goal and the next creativity.
The program is carried on presenting the research papers on different titles which focused on the broad area of physics.
